First introduced in 2003 it was offered alongside the 7.3L Powerstroke initially. By 2004 the 7.3L was entirely phased out leaving customers with the new and more advanced 6.0L. With its ability to meet more strict emissions guidelines than the 7.3L Ford was looking ahead on the horizon of possible new policies that will further control emissions. The last year the 6.0L was available was in 2007, being phased out in 2008 by the even more emissions friendly 6.4L engine.

Some good information to have on hand when purchasing a replacement 6.0L is the serial number of the engine and VIN of the truck. The engine serial number should be located on the left rear corner of the crankcase. The VIN can be found on the top of the dash near the front window and in some cases on the door sill.
